Independent principal engineer, over 10 years in. I take the part of a product that everyone depends on and nobody wants to own — multi-tenant backends, internal platforms over AWS data stacks, checkout flows that cannot fail — and make it something your team can build on for years.
Console-grade portals over a federated big-data platform: an Athena query console, EMR job orchestration, S3 data manager, JIT access requests, and a tenant-level data-governance matrix. Data teams now self-serve what used to require a platform engineer on every request.
Took a post-MVP product to a real multi-tenant platform: org-scoped RBAC, a prerequisites engine for waivers and credentials, and a CQRS event pipeline. Replaced sticky WebSockets with SSE and Redis pub/sub so the API could finally scale statelessly.
Node microservices over a legacy commerce core, with multi-currency checkout across card, wallet and BNPL providers — including a recovery pipeline for orders that failed after payment was captured, which is the expensive kind of bug.
Engagement
Full-time engagement, three months minimum. Long enough to own outcomes, not just tickets.
Role
Architecture and the hard parts, hands on keyboard. Your team keeps ownership; I leave documentation, not dependency.
Contract
B2B through a registered entity, invoiced monthly. Comfortable with MSA, SOW and NDA in place before code.
Overlap
Based in Lviv (UTC+2). Four hours of overlap with US East, a full working day with EU and GCC.
